During inflammation, higher-than-normal levels of nitric oxide (NO) are released from epithelial cells of the bronchial wall. Measuring FeNO can lead to the likelihood of inhaled corticosteroid responsiveness as well as monitoring unsuspected non-adherence to inhaled corticosteroid therapy.
